Gumshell privacy policy
Gumshell is an iPhone game made by Brandon Nichols, an individual developer. In this page, “I” means me.
Short version: Gumshell does not collect your personal information. The game has no account, no sign-in, no server of mine, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party code. The game never sends me your name, email, progress, scores or payment details. A few things go to Apple’s own services, and this page says which. The one thing I can hold is an email you choose to send me, covered below.

Where your data goes
Your iPhone
Your progress, settings, saved matches and Ticket count. None of it reaches me.
Apple, only if you turn it on
Your iCloud save, your Game Center scores and achievements, and your purchases.
Me
Nothing.
I run no Gumshell server, so there is nothing for the game to send and nothing for me to receive.
What stays on your iPhone
Your progress, settings, saved matches and Ticket count are stored on your iPhone. The game also keeps a record there of what you bought in the Shop, so it can give it to you again. I never receive any of this.
If you delete the game from your iPhone, this local data is deleted with it. Copies in your own iCloud are covered below.
What goes to Apple
These are Apple’s services, working under your own Apple Account. I do not run them and cannot see inside them. Apple’s privacy policy covers them: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- iCloud.
- If you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is on for Gumshell, the game copies your save to your own private iCloud storage so another iPhone of yours can pick it up. The save holds your progress, saved matches, Tickets and purchase record, and a random number the game makes to tell your iPhones apart. It stays in your own iCloud account, under Apple’s controls. The iCloud box in the game’s Settings screen shows whether it is working.
- Game Center.
- If you are signed in to Game Center, the game sends your scores and achievements to Apple’s Game Center. Other players can see them on the leaderboards, with the name you set up in Game Center. If you are not signed in, nothing is sent. Scores and achievements you earn in the meantime wait on your iPhone and are sent if you sign in later.
- Purchases.
- Every purchase goes through Apple’s App Store. I never see your card or payment details, or your Apple Account. Apple’s own controls, such as Ask to Buy and Screen Time limits, apply to purchases as they do in any app.
- App analytics and crash reports.
- If you turned on “Share With App Developers” in your iPhone’s analytics settings, Apple may give me crash and usage numbers for the game. I cannot tell who they came from.
What the game does not do
- It does not ask for your name, email, location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- It does not track you across other apps or websites.
- It does not show ads, and it does not use any advertising or analytics code of mine or anyone else’s.
- It does not sell or share your data, because I do not have any.
Children
Gumshell is a game for a general audience and is rated 9+ in the App Store for mild cartoon violence. It is not in the Kids category and is not aimed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included, and the game does not collect any. It has no chat, no ads and no way to contact other players. Game Center and purchases follow the rules and parental controls that Apple sets on the child’s Apple Account.
If you email me
If you write to support@vyntechs.com, I get your email address and what you write. I use them only to answer you. I do not share them, sell them or add them to a mailing list. Ask me and I will delete the email thread.
Your rights
Apart from emails you send me, I hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for me to look up, correct, export or delete. That is the same answer under US state laws such as California’s and Texas’s, and under the UK and EU GDPR: the game does not collect, sell or share your personal information, and I have no server that holds it.
Data that Apple holds is controlled through Apple:
- To remove your iCloud save, delete Gumshell’s data in your iPhone’s iCloud storage settings.
- To stop iCloud saving, turn iCloud off for Gumshell in your iPhone’s Settings app. The “Open Settings” button in the game’s Settings screen opens your iPhone’s Settings app.
- To stop sending scores, sign out of Game Center in your iPhone’s Settings app. To remove scores already sent, contact Apple.
- To stop sharing analytics with developers, turn off “Share With App Developers” in your iPhone’s analytics settings.
The game’s “Reset progress” button starts your progress over, but it keeps your Tickets, looks and settings, so it is not a way to erase data.
Test builds
Builds sent to testers through TestFlight (Apple’s testing service) can write a play log on the iPhone for debugging. It holds the iPhone model, the iOS version, the map and your taps. It stays on the iPhone unless a tester copies it out. The version in the App Store does not include these tools.
