Trivia for the whole room.

Tr1via is a trivia game for any group in a room. Family, friends, the office, a pizza night.

Pick a month

October Halloween

This page takes on that month's colors and weather.

Three screens, each with one job.

One person runs the night, and everyone else plays at the same time.

A laptop, a big screen and two phones, joined by one ribbon of light.
  • HostThe host's laptop. Send out each question, watch the scores come in.
  • Big screenA TV or projector. It shows the question and the clock, then the answer and the standings.
  • PhonesEach player's own phone. The question and four big answers, then a full-screen result.

A code and a name.

Players scan the code on the screen or type the 6-character code at tr1via.com, then add a name. Nobody installs an app or signs up to play.

How a night goes.

From the lobby to the winner, in October's look. Every month dresses the night its own way.

  1. Friends on sofas as dark shapes, lit by a big screen and the glow of their phones.
The lobby screen reading Scan, play, win, with a large QR code, the room code and a pumpkin patch filling with names.
    Real screen

    The lobby

As players join, a pumpkin with each name appears in the patch on the big screen.

  2. Rows of glowing jack-o'-lanterns on a dark hill.
The question screen with a round clock, four answer tiles, a locked-in counter and pumpkins lighting along the bottom.
    Real screen

    The question

The question goes up and the answers land on every phone. Pumpkins light as players lock in, and a horseman gallops across as time runs out.

  3. Seven jack-o'-lanterns in a row: three blazing, two smoking, two tipped over.
The reveal screen: the correct answer and a one-line fact in a wide bar, a first-in list with times, and pumpkins blazing and smoking.
    Real screen
A phone showing a full-screen green Correct result, the points earned and the player's place in the standings.
    Real screen

    The reveal

Every screen changes at the same moment. Pumpkins blaze for right answers and smoke for wrong ones, and the TV shows the answer with a short fact.

  4. A rider on a rearing horse holds up a flaming pumpkin head against the moon over a blazing field of pumpkins.
The winner screen with the winner's name in huge type, a flaming head, a horseman rearing on the ridge and the pumpkin patch ablaze.
    Real screen

    The winner

The winner's name fills the screen and the whole patch blazes. A night can run two games, and latecomers can scan in for the second.

Real screens from a practice game. The player names are made up, and this is the October look.

Every phone shuffles the answers.

A shout of 'number three' means little to the person beside you. Their phone may list that answer somewhere else.

Harder questions pay more.

A right answer pays its face value, from 100 to 700. Answer in under five seconds and it pays 10 percent more. A wrong answer costs nothing.

A new look every month.

The look follows the calendar: snow in January, lightning in May, fireworks in July, pumpkins in October. The host can switch to a different look.
