SEO in Cleburne and Johnson County

Monthly SEO reports in plain words for Cleburne and Johnson County

You should be able to read your SEO report standing at the counter between customers. If it takes a login, a chart legend and a glossary to figure out whether anything happened, it isn’t doing its job.

So each month I send you a short report that covers what I changed and why I picked it, with this month’s map sitting beside last month’s. Then I tell you what the numbers show, including when it’s still too early to tell. Plain words, not a dashboard nobody opens.

The map, side by side

The map is the center of it. I use the same grid, the same center point and the same search every month, because changing any of those makes the two maps impossible to compare. On my own listing I wrote the settings down on day one so the rerun matches exactly.

Put two maps next to each other and you can see it without me explaining a thing: which dots went from red to green, which stayed put, and which slipped.

Up next

The last part of each report is what I’m working on next month, and why it comes first. Usually it’s whatever the map shows as the weakest spot. That might be a town at the edge of your map that went red, or a category every business above you shares and you don’t.

If you have a business partner or an office manager, the report is written so they can read it without me in the room. Pass it along.

If you want to learn more about how the map itself works, here’s the 81-point check explained.

Calls and clicks from your Google listing

Google keeps a Performance screen on every business listing. It shows how many people called you or clicked through to your website from the listing. You can open it yourself any time. I copy the numbers into the report so you don’t have to go looking.

If you track where your jobs come from, I’ll put that in too. The easiest way is to ask every new caller how they found you and jot it on the job ticket.

What I leave out

Some numbers look big and don’t mean much. I leave those out. Every number in the report comes from a real source you could check yourself, and if I can’t point to where a number came from, it doesn’t go in.

I also don’t bury bad news. If the map got worse in a spot, it’s in the report with what I think caused it and what I’m doing about it. If something I tried didn’t work, I’ll say that too. And if a piece of work isn’t worth doing for your business, I’ll tell you before I spend your money on it.

How the first few months usually go

The work runs in a set order, because each part builds on the one before it.

MonthMostly working on
FirstThe starting map, the businesses above you, and your Google listing
SecondYour website: titles, headings, and new service and town pages
ThirdDirectory listings, then a full look at how the map has moved since month one

During those first months you’ll also get a short email most weeks telling you what I’m on. The monthly report pulls it all together.

Changes to your listing and website take days or weeks to make. Google noticing them takes longer. That’s why the first map matters so much: it’s the only fair thing to measure against.

Reading a report around here

Johnson County maps don’t all move at the same speed. A business near the middle of Cleburne and one working out of a truck in Godley will see different things, and the report is written for yours. If your customers come from Burleson and Joshua, those are the corners of the map I’ll point you to.

The same goes for the businesses above you. In one Cleburne trade, the three shops Google showed first had 87, 167 and 714 reviews. In mine, the top business had 40. I show you where you stand against the businesses you’re actually up against around here.

Everything I do for businesses here in Cleburne and the rest of Johnson County gets reported the same way.

Questions about the monthly report

What does the report look like?

A short write-up in plain words, plus the two maps side by side. No logins, no charts you need a legend for.

Can I call you about something in it?

Yes. Call or write back, and you get me. I’m the one who did the work, so I can tell you exactly why something changed.

What if the map gets worse one month?

It goes in the report. I’ll show you where, tell you what I think caused it, and tell you what I’m changing.

How soon will the report show a change?

The changes themselves show up in the first report, because that’s the work I did. The map usually takes longer to move, since Google needs time to notice. I’ll tell you when it’s still too early to read.

Do I need to log in to anything?

No. Everything comes to you. If you’d like to look for yourself, the calls and clicks are on the Performance screen of your Google listing.

Is there a long contract?

No. There’s no long contract, and the monthly report is how you decide whether I’m worth keeping on.

What counts as a result?

The map moving in the places your customers are, and more calls and clicks from your Google listing. The best measure is jobs, when you track where they came from.
